The Tobin School
Natick, MA
Kindergarten - First Grade Class
Helped local food pantry, Katrina victims and shelter dogs
The teachers at The Tobin School thought their kids would have fun learning how to help others—and they were right! The kids held a food drive for a local pantry, baked biscuits for shelter dogs and collected school supplies for kids made homeless by Hurricane Katrina. On the school's Community Outreach Days, the kids collect donations for local charities. The class also recycles, gardens and picks up trash to keep their neighborhoods looking sharp.
How did you do the food drive?
-
Katie B.: Everybody brought in food from home, and we all divided it up into different food groups and counted it all. Then our principal put it into the Natick food pantry.
-
Eli M.: We made backpacks for people in the hurricane. They were filled with pencils and school stuff.
-
Eli M.: Making the dog biscuits, because we got to eat some of them.
-
Katie B.: It makes me happy, it just feels good. It's very fun, and it's very nice to help other people.
