News from the Presidio
It has been a busy few weeks at the construction site of the Walt Disney Family Museum at the Presidio in San Francisco. As the exterior of the future building slowly but surely begins to assume its final shape, the interior was ready for the first set of key systems that will run the future museum.
Using a huge crane, Allied Heating carefully manhandled a massive steel box of heating equipment into the 1st floor gallery, from where it was hoisted up to the 3rd floor attic-level mechanical room. Another large piece was carefully deposited onto a special concrete pad in the basement level. At the same time, the first electrical switchboard was carefully hoisted into the structure and safely placed on its designated concrete pad.
Meanwhile, work continued on covering the roof of the West Elevation exterior with a special plywood diaphragm. And no, the tall green pipe is not NASA’s latest rocket launch pad, but an 8 inch PVC pipe being slowly lowered into the south chimney.
Bauman Landscaping also made good progress installing the first lengths of piping to link the museum to the main storm drain. At the same time, workers began constructing the planter box curbs alongside the east perimeter of the property.
This month, we are also introducing a new feature: all of Eugene Hom’s latest photos from the Presidio construction site, as a nifty little slideshow for your viewing pleasure.
Please stay tuned for our next edition of News from the Presidio, when we return to San Francisco for a “hot-of-the-press” interview with the builders from Plant Construction Company.
