Tracking Rehabilitated Manatees
In collaboration with the Marine Mammal Monitoring Consortium, Guests visiting the Wildlife Tracking Center can now see the movement patterns of a former resident of the Living Seas at Epcot! In 1998, the Living Seas helped to rehabilitate a young orphaned manatee. Raised by the Living Seas Cast Members, she was released back into the wild in February 2002. A satellite transmitter was attached to her paddle when she was released into the canals south of Miami. She has been adapting to life in the wild, foraging on sea grasses, and has even been seen socializing with other manatees! She has spent the last few months near the Florida Keys and we will continue to monitor her progress.
