Beastly Ball
The Greater Los Angeles Zoo Association honored Disney for its legacy of support for animals and conservation at the 36th Annual Beastly Ball on Saturday, June 17. Hosted by Betty White and attended by more than 950 guests, the event raised more than $1 million for the development of exhibits, conservation, programming, education programs, research and other programs for the city-owned Los Angeles Zoo and Botanical Gardens. Disney, underwriter of the Beastly Ball, also made a $100,000 donation to the zoo.
A Time for Heroes Celebrity Carnival sponsored by Disney — a benefit for the Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation
On Sunday, June 11, more than 100 celebrities came together at the A Time for Heroes Celebrity Carnival sponsored by Disney – a benefit for the Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation. Hollywood's best-known celebrities volunteer their time as "heroes" working carnival-style game booths to raise funds for pediatric research. The day was being topped off with a performance by singer/songwriter Jesse McCartney.
Disney Supports the Los Angeles Mission
A few thousand excited children and family members, along with beloved Disney characters, took over the street in front of the Los Angeles Mission for the Mission's 4th Annual End of Summer Block Party. Disney, the official sponsor of the event, presented a $10,000 check to the Los Angeles Mission and made sure that the nearly 1,000 needy school aged children in attendance received a backpack stuffed with school supplies courtesy of Disney VoluntEARS.
Disney's Reading Together Program Kicks off at The Walt Disney Studios Lot
Disney held a kick-off event for its Reading Together program at The Walt Disney Studios lot in Burbank. Reading Together encourages adults to read with children in ways that are engaging and effective. Belle, along with Disney VoluntEARS, read to second grade students who visited the studio from Franklin Elementary School in Glendale. The event also included a Speed Reading Challenge hosted by Disney's national reading partner, First Book, and a showcase of Disney Reading programs from across the company. Dr. Danny Brassell, a reading specialist from Wonder of Reading, held a special session on how to instill in children a love of reading.
