The Loretta Claiborne Story
Special Olympics Get Into It™ helps students learn about those who are different, but who can nonetheless inspire the world with the lesson that we all have gifts to contribute no matter what our limitations. As part of this program, DisneyHand is provided Special Olymics with 4,000 copies of The Loretta Claiborne Story, a Wonderful World of Disney production about a Special Olympics athlete for use in schools. In addition, this year, Disney provided Special Olympics 500 copies of the Loretta Claiborne story translated into Japanese.
Special Olympics Get Into It ™ provides a free curriculum that celebrates the diverse gifts of every student, whatever his or her ability. Through the world of Special Olympics, every student can come to recognize that he or she has the power to make a difference. The program offers teachers tailored curricula for all grade levels:
- K-2
- Elementary School (grades 3-5)
- Middle School (6-8)
- High School (9-12)
The lessons also are designed to support, and be in alignment with, academic standards, youth and character development, service-learning and the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA). For more information, please go to www.specialolympics.org/getintoit.
