Walt Disney Records:
Biography of Alison Krauss
Five-time Grammy® Award-winner Alison Krauss sings the album's first single, "Baby Mine," the touching ballad from Dumbo. Krauss has recorded six successful albums for Rounder Records, including her latest, the 1995 multi-platinum-selling Now That I've Found You: A Collection.
Although it was her instrumental virtuosity that garnered her initial acclaim, it was her voice that soon captured everyone's attention. At age 12, Krauss was invited to join the bluegrass band Silver Rail (an early incarnation of her current band, Union Station), and she was signed to Rounder Records when she was 14. She released her first album, Too Late to Cry, in 1987 and began touring with her parents along to chaperone.
Krauss has since been honored with virtually every bluegrass and country award possible. She was inducted into the Grand Ole Opry in 1993, was the Country Music Association's Female Vocalist of the Year in 1995, and has been a consistent winner at the International Bluegrass Music Association Awards (earning Female Vocalist of the Year on four occasions and Entertainer of the Year twice). In 1995, Krauss took home Grammy® Awards for Best Female Country Vocal Performance for "Baby, Now That I've Found You" and Best Country Collaboration with Vocals for "Somewhere in the Vicinity of the Heart" with Shenandoah.
