Walt Disney Records:
Biography of Little Texas
Little Texas performs "Kiss the Girl," from The Little Mermaid. After releasing its Greatest Hits album, the platinum-selling group is currently in the studio, putting the finishing touches on its upcoming album.
The band -- comprising Del Gray, Porter Howell, Dwayne O'Brien, Tim Rushlow, Duane Propes, and Jeff Huskins -- debuted in June of '89 before a Nashville club audience of 10. Five years later, the band's visit to Music City was before a sold-out crowd of more than 16,000 at Nashville's Starwood Amphitheater.
Little Texas signed with Warner Bros. Records in 1989 and soon had its first hit with "Some Guys Have All the Love." The band followed that with its second Top 10 smash, "First Time for Everything," even before the completion of its debut album.
Warner finally released First Time For Everything in March 1992 and saw it quickly turn to gold. "You and Forever and Me" and "I'd Rather Miss You" went on to give Little Texas four Top 10 singles from its debut album and a spot touring with Clint Black in 1992.
The band's second effort in 1993, Big Time, sold more the one-and-a-half million copies. The first single from the album, "What Might Have Been," was released simultaneously with the album and soon became Little Texas' first No. 1 hit. It also received Billboard's award for Video of the Year.
Little Texas followed "What Might Have Been" with its second No. 1 hit, "God Blessed Texas." The awards, national television appearances, and No. 1 songs culminated in May 1994, when the Academy of Country Music voted Little Texas its Vocal Group of the Year.
In the fall of 1994, Little Texas released its third effort, Kick a Little, and embarked on its first touring experience, as a co-headliner with Tim McGraw. It was the fifth-largest country tour of that year (coming in behind Garth Brooks, Vince Gill, Reba McEntire, and Brooks and Dunn). The group was also named CMT's Showcase Artist of the Month for September. Kick a Little was certified gold and spawned two Top 10 hits: the title track, which the band performed on the nationally televised CMA awards show, and the Grammy®-nominated "Amy's Back in Austin," which has subsequently been honored by BMI for more than one million plays at country radio.
