Hilary Duff - Chat Transcript December 20, 2002

DishDiva in Onstage_ says: Welcome to MSN Live! We are pleased to welcome Hilary Duff to MSN! Hilary stars in the Disney TV series "Lizzie McGuire." She also has a brand new CD out called "Santa Claus Lane."

Digital Dish Diva says: Hilary, thanks for joining us this afternoon!

Hilary Duff says: Hi guys! I hope everything is well. I'm having fun here!

Digital Dish Diva says: Now you are in Vancouver, right?

Hilary Duff says: Yeah, and it's the very last day of filming and I'm excited because I'm going home to Texas tomorrow.

Digital Dish Diva says: Now you just released a holiday album, correct?

Hilary Duff says: Yeah, I did, I just released a Christmas album and it was fun because it was my first experience in the recording studio. I got to do duets with Lil' Romeo and Christina Milian.

Q: "Santa Claus Lane" rules! How did you like recording the album?

Hilary Duff says: Recording an album was totally different than recording in a studio. It's hard to pick music that I really like, but I have great people around me that help me find music that I really like.

Q: How do you enjoy being an actress? Is it hard work and long hours?

Hilary Duff says: I love being an actress. It is hard work, but I get to do what I love every single day. It's great to put myself in someone else's shoes and then go home and be me again.

Q: What was it like meeting Aaron Carter? What about the kiss? Was it embarrassing?

Hilary Duff says: Meeting Aaron Carter was really fun, and it was fun working with him. The kiss was embarrassing because there were like 200 people around, and that was embarrassing, but it was fun meeting him. (laughs)

Q: When you were a little girl did you ever dream about being a star?

Hilary Duff says: When I was a little girl, I didn't think this is what I wanted to do. My older sister actually wanted to be an actress and singer, and of course being the younger sister, I wanted to do everything she did. Then I started loving acting classes and we talked my mom into taking us to California. Then we went on many many auditions until I got Lizzie McGuire.

Q: Hey Hil! Is it hard to memorize your lines, and how long does it take to memorize one "Lizzie" episode?

Hilary Duff says: It was hard when I started, but now I can pretty much look at the page and memorize the scene we're doing.

Q: Hey Hilary, I heard that you've got 2 dogs. What type of dogs are they?

Hilary Duff says: Hi! I have a Border Collie named Remingtion in Texas and a Fox Terrier/Chihuahua mix named Little Dog.

Q: How far do you want to go with your music career? Are you going to put out more albums and tour?

Hilary Duff says: Definitely I want to continue music, and when I get back to L.A. I will continue making my next album, which I hope everyone will love.

Q: Hey Hil, If you could work with any singer or actor who would it be?

Hilary Duff says: That's a hard question because I like so many different people. I'd like to work with Sandra Bullock because she's funny, pretty, and a great actress.

Q: Hi! What's your favorite episode?

Hilary Duff says: My favorite episode was the Christmas episode from this year with Steven Tyler. It was a lot of fun to film. That's why I love it so much.

Q: Are you going to be in a movie called "Confessions of a Teenage Drama Queen"? If so when and will it be in theaters?

Hilary Duff says: I'm not sure if I'm going to do that movie because I'm not sure if I can find the time. I would really like to because it's a really great script. I do have a movie called "Agent Cody Banks" with Frankie Muniz coming out soon.

Q: My sons love your show. Do you have anything new that you plan on doing anytime soon?

Hilary Duff says: I'm filming these movies right now and then releasing the album. Then there could be some different movies, but I can't say anything about that yet.

Q: Does your mom go with you to do all your filming or do you travel alone?

Hilary Duff says: Yeah, my mom goes with me.

Digital Dish Diva says: Do you take anything with you to remind you of home when you travel?

Hilary Duff says: I take a ton of pictures everywhere I go. Pictures of my friends and family. I have a stuffed animal that goes everywhere with me. I got it when I was little and it reminds me of home. My home is Texas and it just reminds me of home.

Q: Does having a TV show make school and family life harder?

Hilary Duff says: Yeah it does. The TV show does keep me away from my family. I don't get to see my dad much and my mom has to spend time away from my dad also and that's got to be hard, but they are very supportive. You just have to have understanding friends that know you can't spend as much time with them. When I do movies I don't see my friends for a few months, but I love my job. So it pays off.

Q: How do you like being in school and having a full time job?

Hilary Duff says: I have a tutor that goes everywhere with me on set. I only have to do it for 2 and a half hours a day. It is hard to switch my focus when I have to go from the set to school, to set to school.

Q: What is the best part about you show?

Hilary Duff says: I think the best part of the show for me is going to work every day and being with the people I've worked with for two years. Also making the show for people who enjoy it. When people come up to me and tell me they love my show, it makes me feel I'm doing something people like.

Q: What part of Texas are you from? Do you ever visit small towns for fun? Meet people.

Hilary Duff says: I am from Houston, Texas and I have a ranch in Bastrop, outside of Austin, but I don't have that much time to go to Houston. So I don't have time to go to small towns.

Q: I think you are the bomb and I really look up to you! What advice do you have for people who want to be like you and to be singers/actresses?

Hilary Duff says: Thank you for looking up to me. That makes me feel really good. If you have a dream, go after it, keep on trying, it will pay off.

Digital Dish Diva says: Hilary, I know we are joining you on the set and you are being called to finish the scene, thanks for being here!

Hilary Duff says: Thank you for making Lizzie McGuire so successful. Happy Holidays

Digital Dish Diva says: Hilary has been called to finish the scene, thanks, bye Hilary!
