 ANTHONY POWELL (Costume Designer) is a costume designer of unparalleled distinction, who has won numerous awards. He was honored in February 2000 with the highest accolade of all when the Costume Designer's Guild of Hollywood recognized him with a special Lifetime Achievement Award.
In 1999 he was made a Royal Designer for Industry (the UK's highest design award) and prior to this in 1997 he was made a Fellow of the Royal College of Art.
Powell's designs for Andrew Lloyd Webber's "Sunset Boulevard" were equally impressive, winning him the Los Angeles Drama Critics Circle Award and Drama-Logue Critics Award for Best Costume Design.
He has also won three Academy Awards® for "Tess," "Death on the Nile," and "Travels with My Aunt"; an Academy Award® nomination for "Hook"; a Cesar Award for "Pirates," for which he received a further Academy Award® nomination; a Tony Award for "School for Scandal"; and the Los Angeles Drama Critics Circle Award for Best Set and Costume Design for "Ring Round the Moon."
His many other film credits include "Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade," "Frantic," "Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom," "Papillon," and "Nicholas and Alexandra" (which won an Academy Award® for costumes).
In addition to the London, Los Angeles, and Broadway productions of "Sunset Boulevard," Powell's theater credits include The National Theatre's "Trelawny of the Wells," "Lettice & Lovage" (New York), "Amadeus" (Paris), and "Private Lives" (London, US), and many operas.
