What may have appeared to some as the signs of a destructive youth were actually DAN DELEEUW's (Co-Visual Effects Supervisor) earliest experiments in visual effects. The models he blew up in his backyard progressed from spaceships and fortresses to a scale model of the rope bridge from "Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom." Later he pursued a degree in computer sciences from the University of California at Irvine.
DeLeeuw joined Dream Quest Images in 1992 as the second employee in its newly created Digital Division. He helped to develop the company's first in-house digital scanner and compositing tools, eventually overseeing their deployment in the computer graphics division. He spearheaded many of Dream Quest's technical advances and has leveraged that knowledge and potential into the evolution of the Secret Lab's creative and technical capabilities following the merger of the two companies. He has been at the forefront of the company's venture into 3-D and character animation and he continues to explore and evaluate new technology.
DeLeeuw was recently digital effects supervisor on "Bicentennial Man," "The Rock," and "Crimson Tide" and was associate visual effects supervisor on the Academy Award®-nominated "Mighty Joe Young" (Best Visual Effects).
