Penny's Diary 5-13-2002 Hi Gadgeteers! Thanks for tuning in to my second Diary installment. In this clip you'll meet the director, Alex, as he explains to you all about the day's shot -- which involves chaining me into a stunt rig so they can film Claw's attempt to kidnap me and blow up the rig I am in. Don't worry, he doesn't succeed. But you'll get to see what a nice guy Alex is and that will give you a hint as to how much fun we had making this movie! By the way, don't forget to check out the teeth... ALEX EXPLAINING THE "BOMB RIG" Penny's Diary 9-20-2002 Hi Gadgeteers. Here we are at diary entry 3. Things are heating up around here, so start looking for weekly messages from me. Today you get my official "welcome to the set" message. Hope you'll have as much fun here as I do! And I'll also show you my first day on the set of Penny's House. You'll see us moving in and I'll give you a little tour of the kitchen set. This set is "hot" which means decorated with props and ready to shoot. Once a set is hot, you are not supposed to touch anything because it is set for the camera to shoot it - but I guess I got a little carried away talking to you guys. Just check it out and see for yourself. Talk to you all again soon. Bye now! CLICK HERE FOR INTRO CLICK HERE FOR PENNY'S KITCHEN Penny's Diary 9-27-2002 Hey everyone! It's diary entry 4. Today you are going to get a first hand look at the inside of Claw's hideout --which is really the old, abandoned sugar factory in Brisbane, Queensland. Peter Green, the producer, and Phil Shearer, the production designer, are going to show us how the building was transformed into a movie set. Phil is going to show us some very cool set pieces. Let's see how good your sleuthing skills are. Try to figure out what in the building is real, and what the art department actually made for the set. Talk to you all again soon. Bye now! TOUR OF CLAW'S HIDEOUT Penny's Diary 10-03-2002 Hey Gadgeteers! It's entry Number 5, and Phil Shearer our production designer, and Brad Greenwood, our illustrator, are going to to give us a "sneak peak" at some of the really cool gadget hats and things they are designing for the movie. Each of the props and gizmos that Alex, the director, has dreamed up now have to be carefully thought out and designed so they will work in the movie. Phil and the art department have to bring those ideas to life. They will be showing us the drawings and concepts before they are finally built. PROPS AND GIZMOS Penny's Diary 10-23-2002 Hi Gadgeteers! Guess what? We are really going to go "behind-the-scenes" today and take a tour of the top secret prop and paint department with Fiona Scott, the assistant art director, and Sandy Wingrove, our head set decorator. After the sets and props have been designed, the art department and the set decorators work together to help create the "look" of each of the scenes in the movie. Here in the workshop the builders and painters have to bring those designs to life. You are now going to see some of the gadgets and set pieces being built and painted. Once they are finished, then the set dressers and the "on-set" props people have to make sure that everything is on the set the day the director is shooting that scene. You are going to see a prop today that you saw in an earlier clip (although this is what it looked like before it was finished) so turn on your sleuthing skills and see if you can find it! BEHIND THE SCENES Penny's Diary 10-31-2002 Today Gadgeteers, we are going on location with Fiona and Phil to visit Queensland University! You are going to see how all the designers, propmakers, set builders, painters, and set dressers come together to magically change the lobby of the campus hall into the police station and Chief Quimby's office. In the "before" clip you will see the lobby of the building before too much is done to it. It's exam time at the University, and you can see some of the students going back and forth to class. In the "after" segment, the plain lobby now looks like a real police department. In fact if you walked in, would you be able to tell there was nothing there before? So every time you watch a movie, you now know that it takes a lot of people that work together to make the background look real. Pretty neat, huh? SET BEFORE SET AFTER Penny's Diary 11-15-2002 Hello guys! Today we are with Chris and Sam who are statue artists. As actors, they have had special "stillness" training - which means theyhave learned to stand very, very, still and hold their positions for sometimes up to several minutes. Today they are going to show us how they create their different poses. In the movie, you will see that many of these background artists were used for the big, climactic chase scene. And even though they look "fake," almost all of them are living people who had to stand really still! How long do you think you could hold a "frozen" pose? WATCH CHRIS AND SAM |
