X Games Environmentality

Eco-Action through Action Sports!

XGE Recycling Success

  • X Games 12 – 71% waste diversion rate
  • Winter X Games 11 – 68% waste diversion rate

WASTE MINIMIZATION

Recycled bottles
  • To reduce waste sent to local landfills, spectators, staff, and athletes will sort waste into custom three-way bins that collect recyclable beverage containers, compostable organic materials, and trash. The recyclable and compostable materials will be processed at Community Recycling, a specialized materials recovery facility in the San Fernando Valley.
  • Cardboard, construction materials, metals, electronics, and plastic shrink wrap will also be recycled at X Games 13.
  • Grease generated from staff catering foods will be turned into bio-diesel fuel.

BUYING GREEN

Compostable forks and knives
  • Wood used to construct ramps at X Games is made from trees grown in certified, responsibly-managed forests.
  • The event media guide is printed on post-consumer, recycled paper and has a recycled plastic binding.
  • Serviceware items, such as cups, plates, and napkins used in the Staff Catering tent are made from renewable and compostable materials, including PLA plastic made from corn and Bagasse, a fiber made from sugarcane by-product.

CLEAN AIR

  • Spectators who utilize the LA County Metro system or carpool (4 or more per car) to The Home Depot Center will receive a special prize in recognition of their efforts to rideshare.
  • X Games Environmentality and the National Arbor Day Foundation are planting 500 trees on behalf of each athlete participating in X Games 13.
