X GAMES 13 - THE WORLD’S GREENEST ACTION SPORTS EVENT

X Games Environmentality™: Eco-Action through Action Sports.

LOS ANGELES – ESPN X Games are back, and they’re greener than ever.

X Games 13, to be held in Los Angeles, August 2-5, 2007, will feature an enhanced Environmentality program that aims to reduce waste and preserve natural resources through the use of sustainable materials, an extensive recycling and compost program, incentives for fans who rideshare to the events and multiple interactive initiatives for spectators and staff.

"The X Games attracts a young demographic, and that puts us in a terrific position to lead by example in increasing environmental education and awareness for future generations," said Chris Stiepock, X Games General Manager. "Our sports depend on a healthy environment, and we're proud of our efforts to preserve natural resources in any way we can.”

At X Games 13, a wide array of measures are being implemented to assure that the massive action sports event minimizes its impact on the environment. As a result of X Games Environmentality (XGE) recycling and compost initiatives, last summer at X Games 12 71% of event waste was diverted from the landfill.

X Games Environmentality will also host the TRASHed Recycling Store in the X Fest spectator area at The Home Depot Center. Spectators are encouraged to Get Caught Recycling by placing their discards in the appropriate recycle or compost bins for which they will receive tokens redeemable for unique and eco-friendly prizes.

In a continued effort to raise awareness about ways to combat climate change, XGE is introducing X Rider, an initiative which will reward spectators who carpool four or more to a car or use LA Metro to get to The Home Depot Center. Recipients will receive a token that can be redeemed at the TRASHed Recycling Store for prizes and will automatically be entered to win one of several grand prizes. Additionally, XGE will plant 5,000 trees in California this year to assist with reforestation efforts following devastating fires in the region. To date XGE has planted more than 7,000 trees nationwide.

Specialized recycling programs have been put in place for maximum recovery and reuse of event materials whenever possible. More than 360 truckloads of dirt used to build the Moto X competition course will be reused in future action sports events. In staff catering areas, utensils, plates and cups will be made from biodegradable materials that can be composted. Grease created from food in the staff catering tent will be picked up by a local company that will manufacture the cooking grease into biodiesel fuel. Waste will be handled through an innovative three-stream sorting program to separate recyclables and biodegradable materials from trash. In addition, X Games will be setting up programs to recycle used office paper, cardboard, electronic waste and construction materials.
