How do I locate Disney collectibles for purchase, or how can I find more information on the history or value of Disney merchandise I already have?
For Disneyana collectors, there are several books that should be helpful in identifying and pricing Disney collectibles: Cecil Munsey's "Disneyana: Walt Disney Collectibles" (Hawthorn Books,1974) [out of print, but available in many libraries] Heide and Gilman's "Cartoon Collectibles" (Dolphin-Doubleday, 1983) "Tomart's Illustrated Disneyana Catalog and Price Guide, 5 vols." (Tomart Publications [P. O. Box 2101, Dayton, OH 45429], 1985-89) Please note: All five volumes are out of print and no longer available from Tomart, but they can be found in many libraries. There is also David Longest and Michael Stern's "The Collector's Encyclopedia of Disneyana" (Collector Books [P.O. Box 3009, Paducah, KY 42002-3009],1992) and Ted Hake's "Official Price Guide to Disney Collectibles," 2d ed. (NY, House of Collectibles, 2007). Other than The Walt Disney Company's official organization for Disney fans, D23, we are aware of one other club that has been established for Disneyana collectors, although The Walt Disney Company does not sponsor it. The National Fantasy Fan Club holds a convention each year, publishes a periodic newsletter, and has local chapters around the country. Their address is: The National Fantasy Fan Club (NFFC) P. O. Box 19212 Irvine, CA 92623-9212 www.nffc.org Neither the Walt Disney Archives nor D23 can authenticate or appraise Disneyana, nor does the NFFC. For that you should contact antique dealers who specialize in recent memorabilia. In order to sell items, you may wish to contact an auction house or eBay.
