Imagine Your Planet

Disney's Planet Challenge (DPC) Cayman Islands is an environmental education program available to Cayman Islands' classrooms. The program encourages students to think and act environmentally at school, at home and in their communities, and empowers them to make a positive impact on the planet.

DPC Cayman Islands has two distinct parts:
a classroom environmental pledge (Years 3-6)
and a classroom competition (Year 6).

Pledge Overview

The Disney's Planet Challenge Pledge is a simple method for encouraging environmental awareness and is open to Cayman Islands' classrooms, years 3-6.

Teachers lead their students in a discussion on the importance of the environment and their role in maintaining its healthy balance. After presenting the class with this background discussion teachers then distribute pledge forms to their students and ask each of them to pledge three things he or she can do to help the environment. Pledges can be anything from drawing on both sides of the paper or picking up litter in the cafeteria, to being in charge of turning off lights at school or starting a recycling program in the classroom.

The DPC Cayman Islands program provides each student with a personal Pledge Card to take home and share with friends and family, and every participating student will also receive a FREE DPC GIFT just for taking the pledge.

It is that simple! Enroll, Discuss, and Pledge! Start helping the environment, today!

Class Project Overview

The Year 6 Class Project Competition challenges Year 6 classrooms to delve deeper into local environmental issues and for students to take an active part in protecting the environment!

Teachers help their class choose an environmental problem - from pollution and global warming, to animal protection, recycling and conservation. The project topic is completely up to the class: the sky's the limit!

Once a topic is chosen, the teacher provides the students with information and resources to aid them in developing a conceptual understanding of the environmental topic. As a class students then create and implement an action plan for tackling their environmental issue within their local community. Using an interdisciplinary approach that incorporates mathematics, science, language arts, visual and performing arts, service learning and social studies, the teacher acts as a guide as the students carry out this project.
