UL does this by evaluating, testing and certifying products, services and companies and has done so for 100 years. The UL mark, or symbol, identifies that UL has certified the product. As the definition of safety evolves, UL's five business units - Product Safety, Environment, Life and Health, Verification and University - are helping meet the expanding needs of customers and the global public. A UL Mentor is responsible for linking classrooms to additional pathways of information to help the classroom reach their objectives and submit their project. They will be a resource and a guide for the classroom, depending on their needs. This may include: resource guidance to websites, books and tools, access to specific guest speakers, help with project management ideas or specific insight into a special topic. The mentor is a working professional, and mentorship is a volunteer role.
Thanks to UL, Underwriters Laboratories, in 2010 Disney's Planet Challenge was able to expand into middle schools across the nation.
