As the definition of safety evolves, UL's five business units - Product Safety, Environment, Life and Health, Verification and University - are helping meet the expanding needs of customers and the global public. A UL Mentor is responsible for linking classrooms to additional pathways of information to help the classroom reach their objectives and submit their project. They will be a resource and a guide for the classroom, depending on their needs. This may include: resource guidance to websites, books and tools, access to specific guest speakers, help with project management ideas or specific insight into a special topic. The mentor is a working professional, and mentorship is a volunteer role.
Thanks to UL, Underwriters Laboratories, in 2010 Disney's Planet Challenge was able to expand into middle schools across the nation.
