Based
on one of the greatest adventure stories ever told -- Robert Louis
Stevensons Treasure Island -- Walt Disney Pictures
thrilling new animated space adventure, Treasure Planet,
redefines state-of-the-art animation: the newest CGI technology
combined with the best of hand-drawn animation, taking moviegoers
on a breathtaking journey across the universe. At the center of
the story is 15-year-old Jim Hawkins, who joins the crew of an
intergalactic expedition as cabin boy aboard a glittering space
galleon. Befriended by the ships charismatic cyborg (part
man, part machine) cook John Silver, Jim blossoms under his guidance
and shows the makings of a fine spacer as he and the alien crew
battle supernovas, black holes, and ferocious space storms. But
even greater dangers lie ahead when Jim discovers that his trusted
friend, Silver, is actually a scheming pirate with mutiny in mind.
Directed by John Musker and Ron Clements, the acclaimed writing/directing
team responsible for The Little Mermaid, Aladdin,
and Hercules, this exciting new adaptation takes animation
to the farthest reaches of the imagination.
Rated
PG for adventure action and peril.

The
movie was inspired by The Country Bears Jamboree, which more
than 75 million people have seen in Disney theme parks around
the world.

Approximately
30 high-torque servo-motors, the kind typically used in model
airplanes, are mounted inside the head of each bear costume
to control the face muscles. The person wearing the suit doesnt
control the facial movements -- a puppeteer does, via remote
control.

Each
bear had a handler assigned to him to help him dress and look
out for his well being. The bears also had their own hair
and makeup person!

|
A
full-scale Country Bear Hall that can accommodate almost 400
people was built at the Disney Ranch for the shoot. When executives
saw the completed two-and-a-half-story building they decided
it was too nice to tear down after the shoot, and its
now a permanent structure on the ranch.
