ABOUT THE STARS
Nothing goes better with landmark animation than using
award-winning actors to give the toys their voices. That's where Tom Hanks
and Tim Allen come in.
Tom Hanks (the voice of Woody) came to "Toy Story"
fresh from receiving his second Best Actor Academy Award® in a row.*
Tim Allen (the voice of Buzz) turned "The Santa
Clause" into the No. 1 holiday movie in 1994. If you didn't
see him there, maybe you cruised by "Home Improvement"
once or twice. Would Tim "The Tool Man" Taylor have played
with a toy like Buzz when he was a kid? Or as an adult, for that matter?
John Ratzenberger (the voice of Hamm) was once that
mailman warming a bar stool on "Cheers." Now he's a talking
piggy bank, one of the only toys in Andy's room without fear of being
replaced.
Currently seen on the series "Any Day Now,"
Annie Potts (the voice of Bo Peep) makes her mark as the main female
toy in the film.
Jim Varney (the voice of Slinky Dog®), that crazy
Ernest, took his character to camp and to jail ... and he even saved Christmas.
Then he stretched things a bit and stood behind Woody 100%.
Wallace Shawn (the voice of Rex) may not be intimidating
in "Toy Story," but he's made quite an impression in films
like "The Princess Bride," "Mrs. Parker and the Vicious
Circle," and "Mom and Dad Don't Explode."
And let's not forget Don Rickles (the voice of Mr.
Potato Head®), the only man who could get away with calling
anyone a hockey puck, even if it is a hockey puck he's speaking to.
* 1993 Best Actor, "Philadelphia"; 1994 Best Actor, "Forrest Gump"
