Financial Commitment
We have been inundated with inquiries from our cast members (our employees) as to how they might be able to help in the relief effort. In response, The Walt Disney Company has established the DisneyHAND: Survivor Relief Fund. Donations will go to organizations providing assistance to the victims of the tragedies and their families, as well as efforts designed to help the nation heal. The Company will match cast member donations dollar for dollar and will make a total donation of $5 million to these efforts.
"With this contribution and the establishment of the DisneyHAND: Survivor Relief Fund, The Walt Disney Company wants to do its part," said Michael Eisner, chairman and CEO of The Walt Disney Company. "While we know our contribution won't make up for the profound loss felt by the victims and their families, we are pleased to be able to offer some assistance in this time of need."
We have all been moved by the self-sacrifice of people heroically offering assistance in the aftermath of the horrific events of September 11. It is in this spirit of helping our fellow citizens that we have established the Fund. The response of our cast members has been overwhelming and contributions continue to come in. One cast member and her fiancé decided to donate 10% of their wedding budget to the Survivor Relief Fund - their thoughtful gift is one of many selfless acts by cast members around the country who are adding their personal contributions to our corporate financial commitment.
